19/08: Upcoming Presidential Elections
In light of August 27 Presidential Election i have made some observations and conclusions. I strongly recommend and endorse President hopeful Tony Tan to become this republic's 7th President.
I certainly do not really wish for President hopeful Tan Jee Say(TJS) to become our country's next President. I strongly believe that TJS field of profession is not suitable for the post he's running for. TJS would better contribute to the country by working in other sectors.
In the recent telecast speech by TJS via Mediacorp's channel, I disagree with him on 3 points,
- 2 of his 3 other competitors who recently just severed all ties with the PAP would not contribute much to Singapore as they would just pass any laws proposed by the PAP.
- TJS said that should he become President of Singapore he would urge the government not to be obsessed about economic growth at the expense of low-income famillies
- TJS said that he would not hold back the reserves
On the Second point, I do know that some policies by the government may result in low-income group to be at a very disadvantage. However, i would like to ask the President hopeful, would the government be able to help this vulnerable group if it didn't have economic growth, would it be able to fund aid schemes like scholarships, medifund, workfare bursaries if it didn't have the money from economic growth. what would happen to Singapore if it was not focused on its economy.
The third point, TJS said that he would open up the reserve to spent it on public projects. This is a good thing. However, i am fearful the TJS would be overly focused on spending and Singapore would become a second "Greece" with no organisation to back us up.
Lastly i do hope that Mr TJS would be less extreme in his future endeavors.
